First Responders Children's Foundation

The Medical Workers Scholarship Fund (MWSF)  has established a partnership with First Responders Children's Fund ..  Each organization complements the other perfectly.

Together we are working to find ways to help families and children affected by the loss of courageous and heroic loved ones.

First Responders Children’s Foundation provides financial support to children who have lost a parent in the line of duty as well as families enduring significant financial hardship due to tragic circumstances.

"Who are considered first responders?

"A first responder is a real-life superhero. They're someone whose job is to respond immediately ( first) when there is an accident or emergency. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), paramedics, firefighters, and police officers are all considered first responders."

MWSF focus is providing support to children of all medical workers in addition to first responders.
"Health care worker means a person other than a health care professional who provides medical, dental, or other health-related care or treatment under the direction of a health care professional with the authority to direct that individual's activities, including medical technicians, medical assistants, dental assistants, orderlies, aides, and individuals acting in similar capacities."

MWSF includes health care professionals in its eligibility criteria.

A Brief History .. how the organizations came to be.

August 18, 2020 at the height of a pandemic, I lay flat on my back for many weeks after a 6 hour AAA surgery. With plenty of time to think about the rest of my life, my surgeon liked the idea of honoring the heroism of our medical community.  V
ideos in the news showing New York doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers entering hospitals to courageously face an enemy they could not see had touched me.  Those we honor knew the outcome of their day could be fatal. They will never be forgotten.

As a United States Marine, we were trained us to kill enemies we could see. NYPD firefighters lost 343 courageous members on 9/11.  They had the courage to move forward in the face of danger. The
First Responders Children’s Foundation was founded just eleven weeks later after firefighters were lost in the that tragedy,  Real courage is moving forward when the outcome is uncertain.
